Daniel Libeskind's Soaring Glass Sky Garden for NYC
Bridgette Steffen - Architecture
Daniel Libeskind recently unveiled a soaring green skyscraper for New York that is constructed of mostly glass and stands to be the city’s tallest residential structure at 900 feet. Dubbed the New York Tower at One Madison Avenue, the 54-story apartment building features a series of ‘sky gardens‘ cut out from its facade that provide green space and terraced balconies for residents. Terraced gardens are becoming quite popular as a means for people to have an outdoor connection, fresh air, and even a place to grow their own food.
Wanted: Car Czar, Second-Worst Job in America
Josie Garthwaite - Automotive
President-elect Barack Obama may have the nation’s least-desirable job (try fixing this economy), but Congress laid the groundwork today for a highly competitive runner-up: car czar.
With approval from President Bush (an affiliation certain to win many friends), the lucky appointee will get to write restructuring guidelines for Chrysler, Ford, and GM. Candidates should have themselves a merry little Christmas now, because the guidelines will be due January 1. After that, the czar will have the rewarding job of delving into the Big Three’s books, overseeing any expenditures over $25 million, and keeping the companies in line with congressional prerequisites for their $15 billion bailout package.
