Got Gift Cards? Organics You Can Score at Macy???s

Here’s the problem. Often for the holidays, you get gift cards, and if you’re trying to live green, it can be hard to find eco-friendly products at the shop your gift card is for. Macy’s is one example. I know some folks who got Macy’s gift cards this Christmas. Because Macy’s is not a dedicated “green” shop you might think your chances of scoring a green product are slim to none. Not true.

I rounded up some cool green-minded products from Macy’s to share, and after the jump, I’ve got some tips for grabbing green products at just about any store.

How to find green products almost anywhere

So if you got a gift card for Christmas from a non-green shop, and want to keep it green, try the following….

Try a basic product search: I did a general “organic” search at Macy’s and got hits for skin care, lip balm, bedding, shirts, and more. The store’s not packed with green, but there are options. Good search terms for finding green, include, organic, eco, natural, and non-toxic. Sometimes the search terms Fair Trade & green will give you results, but they’re not as good.

Look in the product categories: Green is the new black. Most shops who are even somewhat on the ball now include an eco or green category.

Get clean or score some treats: Something I’ve noticed about non-green shops is that you’re more likely to find green body care products like soaps and lotions or eco-gourmet like organic chocolates and Fair Trade cocoa then you are other green products. If you’re up for clean or sweets, do a search for products like this.

You just can’t find a darn thing:?? Sometimes, a shop really won’t have a green product in sight. If you don’t want to cave in, you can always sell or trade in your gift card.
