You know the most fun part of cleaning is spraying with that pump nozzle. (Just like the fun part of making hamburgers is putting that little smiley face of your ex-boyfriend in the patty and PAT-PAT-PATTING that smile right off his face….but I digress.) So when you're done with the old commercial cleaners, wash out the bottle and start saving money – and breathe more easily as well. No fumes, no fuss, no big bucks. It’s as easy as 1-2-3. (Or treat yourself to a chic, colorful new pump — see below.)
Recipe 1 – Grease and dirt removal
Just mix one Tablespoon of a mild dishwashing liquid per cup of water – and spray away.
Recipe 2 – Dirt and disinfection
For disinfecting and cleaning, fill one bottle with hydrogen peroxide, another bottle with white vinegar, and start spraying counters and sinks etc. They both kill bacteria as effectively as harsh cleaners.
Recipe 3 – Mild abrasive scrub
Make a paste out of Baking Soda and warm water, apply to sinks, counters, bathtubs, etc. Rub and rinse. Either finish with a spray of Recipe 1 cleaner – or save yourself a step and add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to the baking soda paste.
Spray Bottles: if you don't have one you can use re-use, here are a few options from Dirtworks that you can color code or write on and label as to contents; or the Container Store or from Pawmarks Online, which has multi-colored aluminum bottles.

Riverwired.com: 33,000 Unofficial Buyers for GM's Volt
khallgeisler - Bikes & Cars
Fan site GM-Volt.com has a waiting list for the Chevy Volt with more than 33,000 names on it. (Actually, as of the moment I’m writing this post, there are 34,179.) This number is the kind of encouragement GM engineers need to get the Volt to the market on time in late 2010.
The problem with the list is that its about as unofficial as unofficial can be. The Web site is not in any way affiliated with GM, and there are no deposits being taken by the company yet. The “Wait List” on GM-Volt.com asks for name, address, enthusiasm level, and the price you’d be willing to pay for the plug-in hybrid.
California led the pack of Wait Listers by far, with Texas, Florida, Michigan, and New York rounding out the top five most interested states. On a scale of 1 to 10, enthusiasm was just over 9, but people aren’t so excited about parting with the cash. The average Wait Listers were willing to pay for the PHEV was just over $31,000, about $9,000 short of what GM expects MSRP to be. Nearly 8,000 responders were willing to put their money where their keyboard is, though, with the average deposit they were willing to plunk down for the Volt being $2,500.
Riverwired.com: Quick Tip for A Green & Beautiful Yard
jchait - Home & Garden
If you pull up weeds every time you see one pop up, you’ll save your yard, cut down on the need for harmful chemicals and pesticide use, and get some arm exercise. If weeds are already out of control, take one day, get rid of all that you see, and make a goal to pull right when you see them from now on.
Riverwired.com: 10 Tips for Greening Your Bedroom
jchait - Home & Garden
This week we’re looking at easy and effective ways to green your living spaces. So far we’ve looked at how to green up both your living room and the baby nursery. Today, we’ll look at the bedroom.
- Use compact fluorescent light bulbs rather than typical incandescent bulbs in lamps and overhead. You can even use LED lighting if you only need to light a small space. It’s the bedroom - you could just go with some soothing organic candles.
- If you charge items in your bedroom, unplug them when they’re not charging. In fact, it’ll save even more energy if you unplug lamps and stereos as well.
- Use a non-toxic, chemical and pesticide free organic mattress.
- Be sure to invest in soft organic pillows, blankets, curtains and other natural bedding accessories.
- Choose sustainable bedroom furniture that’s non-toxic.
- Use natural flooring options or choose natural safe carpet.
- Instead of mothballs in your closets and drawers use natural cedar blocks, dried lavender, or make a mix of dried orange peels, cinnamon, cloves, and essential oils.
- To remove stains from bedding try a natural method: sprinkle the stain with table salt and lemon juice; leave your linens sitting in the sun for a few hours; brush off salt and wash on gentle.
- To keep your bedroom clean aim for all natural green cleaning methods. Green cleaning is important, but you really want to avoid chemicals in the bedroom.
- Choose environmentally friendly paints for your bedroom walls.
Riverwired.com: Quick Green Laundry Tip - Skip the Bleach
jchait - Home & Garden
Bleach is toxic, bad for humans and pets, and pollutes our water supplies and soil. Skip the bleach when doing laundry.
If you want a safer way to whiten whites, use anywhere from 1/4 cup to 1 cup of borax per wash-load (experiment). Borax can also be used as a color brightener as well. If you can’t get past not using bleach, try a chlorine free bleach.
